Bio →
My specialisation is in the archaeology and anthropology of cities and architecture, with a focus on the Middle Ages to the Modern Age. I work on these topics mainly in sub-Saharan Africa and the Islamic world. My research also includes the material culture of colonialism. I have many years of experience in research and academia in Western Europe (UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany) and East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania). I am currently leading a project funded by the Arcadia Foundation and awarded by the British Museum, which focuses on house-building techniques on the Kenyan coast.
