I hold a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh and a postdoctoral fellowship from Princeton University. I served as Director of the Institute of Economics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and CERGE at Charles University and was a member of the steering committee of the European Association of Labour Economists. I also chaired the GAČR Sectoral Commission for Social Sciences and Humanities, led the Commission for the Evaluation of Research Organizations, served on the Government’s National Economic Council, was Vice-Chair of the Council for Research, Development and Innovation, and Deputy Minister for science, research, and innovation
